Alentejo Golf

Alentejo is in the south central region of Portugal . There are five sub-regions that cover the area, the Alto Alentejo (Higher), the Baixo Alentejo (Lower), the Alentejo Central, the Alentejo Litoral, and Lezíria do Tejo. With vast open countryside, undulating plains and rich fertile soil, the golfing greens could not be better for avid golfer. Portugal has mild winters and golfers from Northern Europe can enjoy sunny warm days when courses at home are unplayable.

Castro Marim is the first of 2 golf courses to be constructed near the border to Spain. The course has 18-holes and 71 pars and was designed by Terry Murray in 2001. Whilst walking the course you will see breathtaking views of the mountains, river and the sea. The course was designed to give some challenging features but still provides interest to the low handicappers and still tests the ability of the average handicap golfers. There are a number of facilities available like a club house serving drinks, lunches and dinners, buggy and trolley hire. There is also a driving range, putting green and Golf Academy.

Ammaia Golf Course in Marvâo was designed by Jorge Santana da Silva and established in 1997. The course Covers 137 hectares of the Sao Mamede Natural Park and situated in the Marvao-Portalegre-Castelo de Vide triangle. The site was once an ancient Roman town and historic remains can still be found scattered throughout the course. There is a welcoming clubhouse for drinks and a bite to eat. The course has undulating greens, several bunkers and four lakes. You will find three of the lakes in the early part of the course, 14 holes are on flat terrain, and one in the challenging final sequence of four holes is set in elevated countryside.
